The Red Arrows are the Royal Air Force's official aerobatic display team, flying the BAE Systems Hawk T1 advanced jet trainer in scarlet display livery since 1979. The team's defining visual signature is the colored smoke trails of the Red, White, and Blue smoke pots fitted beneath each Hawk's tailpipe — when nine Hawks form the Diamond Nine and pull a coordinated maneuver with all three colors of smoke flowing, the resulting visual effect is one of the most photographed images in modern military aviation display flying.

The smoke system on a Red Arrows Hawk is integral to the display experience. Diesel oil and dye are pumped into the engine exhaust at the pilot's command, vaporizing into the colored smoke trails that mark the trajectory of every formation maneuver — heart shapes drawn over crowds, the arrows of the team's signature crossed-arrow formation, and the precise vertical lines of the synchronized solo pair. For the audience on the ground, the smoke is the difference between abstract figures performed by aircraft at altitude and concrete shapes drawn on the sky in red, white, and blue.

This RC variant carries the same Red Arrows livery as the smoke-free version in this same pack, with an added smoke system for simulation of the display-team experience. The unmistakable scarlet-painted Hawk silhouette continues to be one of the most-modeled jet display subjects in modern RC EDF scale flying.
