About

The Yakovlev Yak-55 is the immediate predecessor of the better-known two-seat Yak-54 in the Yakovlev aerobatic family. Designed at the Yakovlev OKB as a single-seat unlimited-aerobatic monoplane, the Yak-55 made its first flight in 1981 and entered Soviet competition aerobatic service shortly after. The type carried Soviet pilots through the 1980s World Aerobatic Championships, where the Russian team's strong showing demonstrated that Yakovlev's aerobatic lineage was in the same league as the Western European Extras and CAPs.

The Yak-55M variant introduced in 1989 was a refinement that improved performance and gave the type the airframe characteristics that would later inform the Yak-54 (which is essentially a two-seat Yak-55M development). Production of the Yak-55 series at the Arsenyev Aviation Company has continued in small numbers through the post-Soviet decades, and surviving Yak-55s continue to fly competitively at unlimited-aerobatic fly-ins worldwide.

This electric RC variant captures the Yak-55 silhouette in a smaller, foam-construction implementation suitable for the park-flyer and intermediate scales. The unmistakable Russian-aerobat shape — pugnacious, short-coupled, with the classic Yakovlev flat-bottomed cowling — appears in foam, balsa, and giant-scale Yak-55 RC kits across the modern market.

In the simulator

A friendly entry into the Yakovlev family. The electric Yak-55 trades the heavier inertia of the giant-scale Yakovlev variants for the lighter handling of an electric foamy. Use it to learn the Yakovlev character at a more accessible scale. A natural sibling of the Yak-55 nitro variant in this same pack and the broader Yak family across the catalog.
