The Bell UH-1 Iroquois 'Huey' — the Vietnam-era utility helicopter that defined American military rotorcraft — captured as an RC scale model.
The Bell UH-1 Iroquois — universally called the 'Huey' — is one of the most iconic military helicopters ever produced. The XH-40 prototype first flew on October 20, 1956, and the production HU-1 (later UH-1) entered U.S. Army service in 1959. The Huey became synonymous with American military operations in Vietnam, where the distinctive 'whump-whump' of its two-blade rotor is one of the most-remembered sounds of the war. Total production exceeded 16,000 airframes.
