About

The Twinstar II is part of the Multiplex Modellsport beginner-and-intermediate foamy line. Like every well-loved Multiplex foamy, it's built around the company's ELAPOR-foam construction — a moulded particle foam that gives the airframe both crash-resistance and the kind of structural rigidity that lets a beginner make the inevitable hard landings of multi-engine training without ending the airframe's flying career.

The Twinstar II's defining innovation was bringing multi-engine flying within reach of the beginner-and-intermediate market. Two small brushless outrunner motors mounted on the high wing give the type the visual character of a small twin-engine commuter aircraft, while the high-wing layout, generous dihedral, and friendly stall behavior keep the handling well within the comfort zone of pilots who have graduated past a basic single-engine foamy. Unlike most twin-engine RC trainers that rely on glow engines (with the attendant complexity of synchronized glow-engine starting and tuning), the Twinstar II's electric power makes multi-engine operation as straightforward as plugging in two batteries.

The bigger picture is the multi-engine-foamy category itself. The Twinstar II essentially defined the small electric twin-engine foamy segment, and the proportions you see in modern competing brands' twin-engine foam trainers trace their lineage directly to the Multiplex original.

In the simulator

A friendly introduction to multi-engine flying. The Twinstar II flies the way a beginner twin should — predictable handling, gentle stall, and twin-engine throttle coordination simplified by the high-wing layout's natural stability. Use it to learn multi-engine technique without the complexity of a full scale-twin scale subject.
