About

The Zivko Edge 540 is the product of Zivko Aeronautics, a small American aerospace company that made its first flight in 1996 and built its reputation on unlimited aerobatic performance — 420 degrees per second roll rate, 3,700 feet per minute climb, and the kind of brutal directness of handling that made the Edge the most-common aircraft on the Red Bull Air Race grid through the series' peak years.

This RC implementation is in the "shockflyer" foam-construction class — a category that sits at the smallest, lightest end of the foam-aerobatic market. Shockflyers are typically built from open-cell EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam in a flat, slab-fuselage configuration, with extreme-low wing loading, oversize control surfaces, and small brushless installations. The result is an Edge-shaped airframe that can fly indoors in a school gymnasium, in calm-evening conditions in a backyard, and at speeds that let a pilot practice 3D maneuvers in confined spaces. EPP construction means hard contacts with walls, ceilings, and floors don't end the airframe's flying career.

The Shockflyer Edge gives pilots access to the unlimited 3D vocabulary — hovers, harriers, torque rolls, knife-edge — at the smallest practical scale, in a venue where a giant-scale Edge 540 simply cannot fly.

In the simulator

A friendly entry into the Edge 540 family at the smallest end of the size class. The shockflyer construction means slow speeds, low wing loading, and the kind of forgiving handling that lets a pilot experiment with 3D figures in confined airspace. Use it as the natural starting point in the Edge 540 family. A natural sibling of the Edge 540 Electric (3D Planes pack) and the larger Edge 540 25 Percent and 33 Percent.
