About

The Boeing-Stearman Model 75 / PT-17 Kaydet is the open-cockpit biplane trainer that taught half a million Allied pilots to fly during WWII. Original production reached approximately 10,626 airframes between 1934 and 1945, and surplus Stearmans flooded the civilian market after the war.

This RC variant adds floats to the basic Stearman airframe — recreating one of the more unusual real-world Stearman conversions. While most surviving Stearmans operate from conventional grass strips, a small number of restored PT-17s and N2Ss have been fitted with floats over the years for sport flying and water-bound bush operations. The combination of the open-cockpit biplane aesthetic and the floats-on-water character produces one of the more romantic visual signatures in light aviation.

The unmistakable Stearman-on-floats silhouette is a unique sport-scale subject — combining the open-cockpit biplane warbird aesthetic with floatplane handling.

In the simulator

A satisfying golden-age scale subject with the addition of float-flying technique. The same gentle handling as the wheeled Stearman variant in this same pack, with the off-axis crab a floatplane needs in a crosswind. Use it for relaxed sport-scale flying with biplane-on-water character.
