The Sky Surfer is a popular foam electric glider format produced under the Hobbico brand and similar designs from competing manufacturers. Like every well-loved foam glider, it earns its place in the hobby by being three things at once: light enough to soar in modest thermal conditions, tough enough to survive the inevitable mistimed landings of a learning pilot, and simple enough to repair on a kitchen table with hobby glue.
The high-aspect-ratio wing, gentle dihedral, and flat-bottomed airfoil produce the kind of self-righting stability and long glide ratio that makes thermal-hunting forgiving. Electric park-class gliders have replaced winch launches and slope-soaring requirements with a simple climb-on-motor, cut-power, and read-the-air profile that fits any open field.
