The Aerospatiale SA 315 Lama first flew on March 17, 1969. Jean Boulet flew a Lama to 40,820 feet on June 21, 1972, setting a helicopter altitude record that has stood for over fifty years. The 'AF' designation refers to a military-variant livery.
