The big-engine "Stick" — Hangar 9's Ultra Stick 120, a versatile sport ARF that handles like a bigger trainer with full aerobatic credentials.
The Ultra Stick is a sport ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) airframe in the Hangar 9 product line, a Horizon Hobby brand. The "Stick" name refers to the simple constant-chord wing and slab-sided fuselage that have characterized this category of RC airframe since the original SIG Kadet line of the 1970s — a deliberately uncomplicated layout that prioritizes stable, predictable flying over scale-realistic looks. Like every well-loved Stick airframe, the Ultra Stick earns its place in the hobby by being three things at once: forgiving enough that an intermediate pilot can fly it confidently, capable enough that the same pilot can graduate into mild aerobatics on it, and straightforward enough to assemble in a long evening at the workbench.
The "120" in the name refers to the 1.20-cubic-inch (about 20cc) glow engine class — at the larger end of the conventional sport-aerobatic engine sizing, comfortable with either a two-stroke or, more commonly, a Saito four-stroke like the Saito-180 used in our sim configuration. At this size the airframe carries a wingspan well over 70 inches and the kind of confident in-the-air presence that makes it equally at home on a windy Saturday and a calm Sunday morning.
The bigger picture is the Stick category itself. Whether Hangar 9 Ultra Stick, Tower Stik, SIG Kadet, or similar simple-wing sport airframes from competing brands, the constant-chord-wing "Stick" became the natural step beyond the high-wing trainer for pilots who wanted aerobatic capability without committing to a dedicated 3D mount.
A versatile sport airframe — equally happy in the pattern, on a low pass down the runway, or pulling a clean four-figure aerobatic sequence. The Ultra Stick 120's mass gives it the kind of inertia that makes maneuvers read clearly at altitude, while the slab-sided fuselage and constant-chord wing keep stall behavior predictable. Use it to bridge the trainer-to-aerobatic gap on a calm day. Pairs well with grass strips and rural fields that suit a relaxed-pace sport airframe. A natural mate to the Funtana 40 and U-Can-Do family in this same pack.
